Good day,

I have a 2.8 duramax trailblazer and i wanna know if the timing belt breaks and the valve rockers also and when repaired would it require to open the sump for any metal that might end up in the sump.?

I would think that it is an interference engine and if the timing belt breaks while running then you will have piston to valve damage and it will need major repair work if it can be repaired.

If you have broken metal parts due to timing belt/chain breakage you will have to locate the broken parts. Typically as Black02Silverado said, interferance engines require complete disassembly if cam timing is lost to the point of breakage.
