Why does my 2500 scan a 3500

I recently had my truck tuned up and the guy tuning it said the computer scans it as a 3500, not a 2500

Hard to say without seeing the tune file for myself.

 

If the VIN number in the tune matches the VIN on the dash, then all is good. The 2500/3500 trucks use the same calibrations on the gas engines.

Yeah, I think the 2500 and 3500 are basically the same truck. That's why the price tag isn't that different. Slightly higher cost for the 3500 because of the extra steel.
