2021 Sierra Elevation Android Auto & WIFI

I noticed with mine, when connected to Android Auto my phone disconnects from the WIFI.  Since my truck is not equipped with navigation, I use my phone.  Without the WIFI, it uses up my phone's mobile data.

 

Anyone else notice this?  Not sure it Android Auto causing this or a phone issue, but if I recall, when connected to Android Auto, it kinda takes over the phone and you can't really control much.

Mine does this as well. It's very irritating as I am paying for the Onstar Data package so that I don't use my phone's data.

That is how Wireless Android Auto connects to your phone.  Android Auto uses too much bandwidth for bluetooth so it must connect to your phone using wireless.  

 

You could try plugging the phone into the USB and disabling Wireless Android Auto in the phone app.  Then you could use your truck's wireless for data.  Honestly, though, data plans through wireless providers are a lot cheaper than the OnStar data, so I don't know why you'd want to stay with that for Nav and such.

Same here, I don't live on my phone like many others, so I don't pay any monthly service plans for my phone.  So paying for the data package is worth it to me.

Well, I have a cheap phone plan that does not have unlimited data. I only pay for what I use there, and it's 10/per gig. Most of the time I'm on wi-fi, whether it's at home or at work, so I don't really need to have a big data plan. I just need mobile data to stream music and navigation whilst driving. I like the unlimited data thru Onstar because I already have another package, so the unlimited data add on is only 15 bucks a month. Better deal in my situation. So I'd like to be able to just use the data from my truck wirelessly if possible, but if not, plugging it in will work It  just defeats the purpose of having wireless android auto. Thanks for the input.
