Transmission stages?

Ok, please forgive my ignorance. Can someone explain to me the difference in the stages of a transmission? I’m needing a new one and had no idea about the stages.

Most of the time when companies say stages they are meaning for like a "built" transmission that is tougher and made with stronger parts to handle more horsepower.

 

You won't need anything like that if you just want a new transmission. You could get one from the GM dealer, could even call Jegs or Summit racing and they'd help you get the correct transmission to match your VIN.

 

Or take your truck to a transmission repair shop and have them rebuild your current transmission with new parts and a new torque converter.

I’m sure I’ll be fine with just the regular one. It’s not really driven that much anyway.
