I have the new GM "ventilated" 6.2 as of a few weeks ago ...cruising normal highway speed and next second major shudder, chugging, smoke, dash lites on, engine power reduced warning, then dead ...all catastrophic stuff. .ha!. .towed home and start looking for a motor. Going off the company's word that it works but checking here if anyone has swapped the older engine for a newer ..21 era?? ..was told some front drive parts don't work. .water pump, etc...dunno what else?. . .but wanting to know if anyhone has done it and what, if any, issues they had?? . .thanks ..

I'm not sure why the water pump wouldn't work. The accessories are mounted differently but you should be able to re-route hoses etc? You'll need an electric vaccum pump, L87 doesn't have lubricating ports for the pump cast in.

I think those are the main mechanical difference's that could create problems for you.

That being said, I think the major hurtle would be the ecm and getting it to play nice with "your" tcm. I'm not even sure this can be done?

Thanks, Micky..I bought an 18 trans and 21 motor..they sent the ecm for the motor but not sure as you say on how that'll work with the trans. .guess I'll find out on that.

I'm going off what they said that I'd have to reuse my compontments from the 16..that the 21 accessories wont work/fit..?..should know in a day or two whats what..
