Calling all 2001 Z71's

I was thinking of trading my stepside single cab for an extended cab 01 z71 4x4, but want to know what problems they are known for, before I decide to make a decision. If anyone owns one of these, please tell me your experience, Thanks.

I love mine! I have had it for 2 years now and have 46K on it with no major problems. I had the fuel pressure regulator go bad and the 4WD control panel replaced. I also have some wind noise through the passenger side doors. That is one thing to check on a used truck, how good the doors and rear windows seal.

I've got a 2001 Z71 LS Ext Cab and I LOVE IT. It has almost 93,000 trouble-free miles on it. The only thing I've got to do to it is replace the brakes and get a new horn for it. I don't truly baby my truck either. I say go for it!

I resonded in the "snow belt" thread with:

I currently have 68,300 miles on my 2000 Chevy Z71 and I am on a first name basis with the service manager at my local dealership. Luckily, I have an extended warranty until 75K with $0 deductible so I haven't had to pay a cent for any of the work.

Things that have gone wrong:

1. Front differential seal leak.

2. 4x4 autotrac switch.

3. Driver side cable regulator

4. Fuel Pressure Regulator (twice)

5. Driver side heated mirror (twice)

6. Passenger side heated mirror

7. Burned out lights on the HVAC controls

8. Resistor for blower speed #1

9. Burned out lights on the radio

10. Fuel sensor unit (gas gauge reading empty when full)

Also, had the rear window leak water into the cab, but I fixed that myself with silicone. In addition the driver side weatherstripping came loose, but I reattached that with a sheetmetal screw to keep in place as adhesive wouldn't hold it in place.

One more thing, the tailgate needs to be slammed shut to latch.

I am definately not keeping the truck one mile past 75K. I plan to buy another Chevy or GMC with an extended warranty to 100K miles. I just can't bring myself to buy a Dodge or Ford.

It's common for:

1. Rear gears to go out around 60K miles

2. Fuel sending units fail (primarily 99-00 trucks, but on some '01s too)

3. ABS sensor goes out (same as #2)

Beside that, great trucks, over 99K on my 2000 GMC :)
