Yukon "Power Folding Mirrors" needed

Looking for "Power Folding Mirrors" for my 2001 Yukon XL. Currently these are manual folded in by hand, and must be pulled in each time to enter my garage. Basically ok, but wife is expecting, and power folding would be nice.

I believe these are now available for 2003 model Yukons. Anyone know where I can get these aftermarket, or if my only option is to find 2003 "Power Folding Mirrors" and try to apply to 2001 model.

Thanks,

Guys, I have done this mod to my truck. You need to buy 03+ mirrors. The problem is that for the 2003 model year, nearly all of the electronics where changed in the fullsize trucks and SUVs. You will need to cut off the actual mirror connectors on your vehicle, and cut off the mirror connectors on the 03 mirrors. (The electronics are different, they do not match up). Then you will need to go to an electronics stores (not Radio Shack) and buy new matching female and male connectors. Then you must install the wires from the truck and mirrors into the new connectors so that the correct wires match up. There will be new wires that will need to be run from the truck harness to get a power source and ground. Then you still need to wire a switch to your dash to control them.

THIS IS NOT AN EASY MOD!

It took me about two weeks and I had schematics/wiring charts/guidelines from another member (I can send them to you if you want). I'm very comfortable pulling things apart and it still took two weeks.

Consider that if for example someone broke your mirror after this install, you would then have to go buy another considerably more expensive 03+ mirror, and cut up the wiring harness and install the wires in new connectors all over again. It is a lot of work, but it sounds like you have a bit of a problem with your garage.

If you have a local salvage yard with old 80's J-body cars (Cavalier, Sunbird, etc.), you can nab some nice connectors under the dash to match up to the factory connectors. That simplifies things greatly and eliminates the need to hack up your factory wiring. I was able to find a local junkyard with probably a dozen J-bodies and half of them had the connectors I needed. The connector you're looking for is under the driver side dash, and only found on old J-body cars with cruise control.

Or you can buy 01-02 Cadillac Escalade power folding mirrors. They have the old style connectors and pinouts. They only lack the LED turn signals. All power functions will work, but you would have to add another connector and run a couple new wires for the power folding, but this is also easy with the J-body connectors.

Hey Gnat,

I remember talking to you about this topic several times over on FSC.

I think you had a mirror break on you in the process, and was wondering if you were able to get a pair wired up?

Hey Gnat,

I didn't have a mirror break... first I thought I could save money by buying them separately. Picked up RH side, never found a LH side. Then I found some mirrors with no glass and thought I could save money supplying my own glass. Turns out the glass cost more than a pair of mirrors, and THEN I finally found a single LH side to match my RH side... BUT then I found lilruckus who sold me the mirror glass cheap for the glass-less mirrors. So I ended up with 2 good pair of mirrors, ended up selling 1 pair.

Anyway, I've test-wired it and it will work out great. I have my J-body connectors. I got the idea in my head, that rather than cutting and splicing, it would be better to get the crimp terminals and crimp them right onto the mirror wiring so it all looks 100% factory. Then I'd remove the original terminals from my J-body connectors and snap the new ones right in. No splices and all wire colors correct. I have a friend that can get them... he got me the right male terminals, but the wrong female ones, so I have to have him reorder them and I haven't been too quick about it due to other projects. I just got my factory power folding switch a couple weeks ago so I probably need to get back onto this project.

Dude power folding mirrors came stock for my SLE 2003 sierra truck. They rock, but I was thinking of getting some SS mirrors....how much are my current ones worth? Anyone see prices?

Also if you guys are having problems with wiring up anything in a GMC truck I got a buddy who works at a dealership. drop me an email and I will give you his, so you can ask him what cha want.
