ok i ordered my new escalade display..so preparing for when it gets here i went to my dealer and asked if they would need the whole truck to program the mileage or just the display,well the look i got was priceless :seeya: ..anyway they said i would need to bring the whole truck in because if i tried it at home the security system would not work and the truck would not run until the body control module was reprogrammed for the new display..i thought this was a plug and play kind of mod(except for swapping the mileage)any experience with this would be helpful.. :jester:

this is a 2000 1500 5.3l silverado :sigh:

Plug and play. A friend just swapped his display a few weeks back on his 03 Tahoe for a unit that had the trans temp included...just plugged it in and had zero on the clock. The display came with a sticker that he could put the actual mileage on and then stick it on the door, or he could go find someone who is authorized to adjust the mileage the right way.

Most dealerships send them to a seperate facility where they program the mileage and hours according to you old one. In most cases they will even give you a core charge for your old cluster. I would try phone some other dealerships to see what there practices are. Here in Canada we have to send them to york electronics to have this done.

You will probably have to send both clusters to a "certified" speedo shop if you want the milage swapped. Otherwise you'll have to use the sticker.

Personally I would prefer to have the correct milage displayed. I think the sticker could take some residual $$$ out of your truck... Car lots, dealers and individuals don't all understand what a cool "Mod" is, and they will hit you in the pocketbook when you go to sell/trade. If I remember right, most places charge around $50 to do a certified milage swap.

BTW, your new cluster should be plug and play and totally functional except for displaying the incorrect milage.

plug and play is correct

there is a speedo shop , i think in new york with a 3 day turn around

complete for 75.00.and you need only send them your new cluster

and the CORRECT mieage,

but no matter what never attempt to crank the truck with the cluster

unplugged _ serious problems> :seeya::sigh:
