...they definitely feel different then the factory shocks. Quite a bit stiffer....but....I LOVE THEM. Now hopefully they will reduce that pitching pogo effect I get when towing our camper. I'll report back when we tow our camper on how they work.

Definitely report back; to me there is a fine line in perception between a stiffer ride and less bounce or repetitive motion.

The common practice way for determining if the shocks are bad is bouncing the vehicle by hand if it goes up and down three or more times the shocks are worn.

In practical terms, I hate anytime I hit a bump for the truck to bounce up from the bump then come back down hard... Not a problem in a 1/2 ton truck, but the heavier trucks struggle with this sensation when unloaded.

I definitely will report back.  Empty is not a good judge of the shocks although they are noticeably stiffer from the factory ones.  We probably will hook up to our camper in March and explore some of the sites in Alabama.  I most certainly will report back when we do.

A little more follow up on the 5100's.  Today while traveling the backroads into work, I hate highways, and those back roads are trash.  Tons of giant potholes, just total trash.  I was expecting the rear end to do some hopping around corners and be too stiff we will say.  Actually it wasn't.  It felt more planted, like way more planted to the ground.  No skipping, no hopping, no nothing.  Those shocks kept it planted without beating me to death.  I'm even more impressed now then I was.  I think I found a true winner thanks to the advice from others on this thread.  Thank you all so much, I'm very appreciative!!  2 Thumbs up for a total WIN!

FINALLY had a chance to tow our camper yesterday.  I did a few things to it, made sure there weren't any cooties or mice in it after it being stored for the last 4 months.  By the way, a nice tip is to throw dryer sheets everywhere to keep out the mice.  It actually works!!  Anyhow I was curious to know how the 5100's would do with that unsettling bounce I was getting.  Final verdict is absolutely AMAZING!!  100% eliminated that bounce and the truck stayed planted at all times.  Rode like a dream actually.  So thank you all very much for the suggestion of the Bilstein 5100's.  Problem solved and it made towing totally stress free.  I only installed them on the back in case anyone is wondering.

I installed the 5100's on my 2015 GMC sierra 1/2 ton that had a RC level lift on it. I removed the level lift and installed 5100 all the way around with fronts set on the highest setting. This was a great improvement . The biggest thing I noticed was how quick the truck would settle out after hitting a bump. Cornering was more planted and just a better overall driving experience.

I have been kicking around replacing the Rancho shocks on my 2500 HD. I was thinking about the 4600's since I have no lift and the are slightly cheaper and according to Bilstein valved nearly the same. Just wish they weren't blue and yellow. Luckily found the 5100's for under $379 for front and rears.

I have searched through this forum for several hours looking for the answer to my question and haven't found it yet, so I'm hoping with this post someone knows the answer.

2022 2500 gasser Custom model, factory shocks.  I love the way it rides, I'm not looking to change the ride at all empty or when towing.  I only have ONE thing I want to change about it and here it is.

When towing our camper with 1klbs of tongue weight, when I hit a big dip in the road or something like a bridge abutment, the back end will pitch up and down close to 3 times before the rear shocks get control of the weight.  It's a little unnerving when it happens and would like to get a rear shock that has more rebound control.  I've read some great things about the Bilsteins but I couldn't find where someone used them specifically to reduce the up and down pitch when towing after going over a large dip or bump.

If someone knows the answer to my question please let me know what to buy, I would really appreciate it!!!

Edit: I've read that airbags can help with the problem I have as well.  I'm open minded here and will do whatever it takes to eliminate that unnerving pitching motion.  Thanks all!!!!

@Jettech1do you remember the torque spec for the shock bolts? I'll be replacing mine this coming week.

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
