So ive got an 08 sierra, 5.3.thought i finaly got the dreaded lifter collapse. Pulled my valve cover and i find no sloppy rockers to indicate ones failed.

I have no missfire codes, or any other related. I did lose oil pressure when the ticking began. It came back, lo but rises with reving engine.

Yesterday i began tearing it down, got exhaust manifold off and some wiring but thought id stop there for now.

Can these afm lifters fail but still no sloppy rockers? It does sound from either cyl 4 or 6.

Alot of work to pull that head to find thier ok. Anything else anyone can think of to cause an upper engine tick.

Edit: i should add when it first happened and oil pressure dropped out i had a louder knock sound, with squeeling. Like it was a rod or spun bearing in bottom end. Shut it off, statted it next day and drove 10 min to work and it was gone, just had what sounds like lifter tick.

It lost oil pressure and now the oil pressure is fine? How many miles on this unit?
