My 2011 Silverado Z71 came with the On Star system, but not with a backup camera.

Does it need to have a back up camera installed from the factory in order to have the wiring integrated in the wiring harness.

I want to add a backup camera, and I don't know if I need to add wiring from the tailgate into the cab, and mirror.

Installing it to melt into your factory wiring would be a nightmare. The tail gate on an 06 Avalanche is not hollow, I have no reason to believe yours is hollow either; running a wire inside the tali gate would be tough; I have a picture some where on the puter of the insides; it's braced up, there may be a way, I'd have to find the picture. The corners of the bracing MAY be open I don't remember. I was trying to get the tail gate back up camera light Chevy did. I got the plastic molding that holds the camera, the lock and all but could not get a wire through the tail gate. I got a lic plate camera and just wired it into the after market radio In Accd. With (IAW) the instructions. It works fine.

Hello,

I have a 2005 Silverado 1500 and am towing a trailer.

I purchased a AMTIFO RV Backup Camera Wireless HD 1080P 7 Inch DVR Monitor 4 Channel Bluetooth Trailer Rear View Camera System Infrared Night Vision Reverse Camera for Furrion Pre-Wired RVs A8  from Amazon for the rear of the trailer.

Little did I know I got a free wireless license plate camera with that purchase.

I wired it into the license plate lights so the headlights need to be on for it to function but it did a perfect job in helping me back up to the tongue.

Both work perfectly.

Best of Luck!
