Do you have a "slim jim" or know some one who does? Don't trust some towing company guy, you could mess up your auto locks. you can make one w/ a piece of sheet metal in about 10 min

That's right, take your VIN number, proof of ownership and some ID and the dealer can make you a key. Its cheaper than a locksmith, plus you get an extra key.

I have seen our local police officers help people get in there cars with a slim jim. But it's usually at the grocery store or some other public place.

AAA is an option. They do lockouts if you're a member. Some pd's do them, but I know we won't do them unless the car is running or there is a child inside. I happen to have a lockout kit I got when I was doing some volunteer work. It's amazing the way they design all the stuff in various configurations to work on specific types of locks.

How could he mess up the power locks? They are built into the door latch on a 2000.

You can use a slim jim on a 2000. I did anyways with no ill effects.

Yea I've done that VIN thing. All you have to have is the title and ID. If your like me and you got an OBS then its a mere $7. If you need that chip, look to drop about $20.

Did Chevy quit giving the Valet key with the trucks? I got one with my 98 & keep it in my wallet.

trucks don't have chips in the key, no matter what body style. The PASSLOCK II system 98-up uses a lock cylinder with a specific resistance instead of a resistor on the key like PASSLOCK did.

Usually doesn't make it past the first owner. On the 95-up trucks if you get a key made without the rubber on the top it is small enough to slip into one of the pockets in your wallet and never know it is there.
