2015 denali 1500 6.2 swap TO a 5.3 ?

Hi Guys I am looking at purchasing a 2015 gmc Denali 1500. Its in amazing condition inside and out BUT the owner said he grenaded the factory 6.2 hooked up to the factory 8L90. He couldnt find another date coded 6.2 so he dropped in a date coded 5.3 and hooked her up to the 8L90 and then said he had it tuned ? Is it that simple or do I stay away from this truck ?

i just dont want any shuddering because of extra 2 speeds or codes thrown all the time.

or am i over thinking this ?

Yes, it can be as easy as putting in a different engine and getting it tuned.

FYI, GM did pair the 5.3 with the 8 speed on some packages - maybe not in 2015 though.

 

I have a 2018 that came from the factory with a 5.3 and an 8 speed trans.

Ksiesel, correct not in 2015. They started pairing them up in 2017 upwards. But I didnt know if the technology was there yet in 15 to pair the two successfully. I read there is Lag with the extra 2 speeds because of shift points differs. But also read there is a reprogram available to correct it.

i thought i would ask incase someone has done this and no issues for sure so i can jump on the truck i am looking at.
