I was replacing the cabin air filter on my 2019 Silverado which is behind the glovebox door. The glove box needed to be removed which is quite easy, HOWEVER to do this you need to pop the glovebox door damper off the door to remove the door. In the process of doing just that the entire damper popped off and I can't see of feel where to hook it back up under the instrument panel. ANY feedback on this issue would be much appreciated.

Thank you

It is not hard just no room to get your fingers in there.  I found if you extend the damper, pop the top pivot on to the dash, then swing the door up and use a small screwdriver to slip the lower part into the glove box pivot.  Like always at GM, serviceability is way down on the priority list.

It's tucked back in there. For the future, it's so much easier to just pop the ring off the glove box tab so it stays in the damper. If you can't seem to fish it out, it's really easy to remove that lower glove box. I can share a video on how to do that, if needed.

Folks.... The damper has already come off the dashboard... I am holding it in my hand. Yes I know it goes way up in there but you cannot see where to attach it to the IP.  Don't really want to start taking the entire IP apart for something that just clips on to two plastic studs. HMMMM

My damper came apart, and fell behind the dash, I found 2 bolts and 3 T-15s I removed them and tried to take the trim off but nothing came off-- Any ideas?  Thinking if I can't get it to have the dealer fix it when the cabin air filter is due for replacement.

We must not be talking about the same truck... you sure you are talking about a 2019 Silverado?

Did you end up getting this to work? I literally had the same issue with my 2021 gmc sierra same part but am pretty sure its the same layout. Got it working.

I too have dropped the lower glove box damper (2021 GMC Sierra 1500) behind the dash and can't fish it out. I'm interested in the video from "Ultimate 2022" on how to remove the lower glove box.

Damon, How were able to get your damper installed? I can't get my damper of the small dashboard cavity and even if I could, I don't know how to attach the damper without removing the lower glove box. I have the same truck as you (2021 GMC Sierra 1500). Thanks in advance.

Hey man, only one of those two smaller plastic loops needs to attach to the lower dash assembly, right at the opening, and the larger one attaches to the actual glove box like you said, and that’s it.

You will see the snap-in damper retainer pin right at the opening, it looks just like the one on the box, and the rest of the cylinder just sticks up in there, with only one of the small loops attached right at the opening. The damper has 2 small loops on the housing to allow for adjustment, but you only attach one. Choose which one works better for how you want it to open and close, and you’re good.

It will typically be the first one/ lower one, closest to the actuating arm that gets attached. No need to worry about attaching the one that goes up in there deeper, there is no other/ inside retainer pin for that one.

I to have a 2022 Chevy pickup, that I was changing cab filter behind lower glove box. The dampener fell off behind the plastic which I finally was able to fish out. I don’t know where it hooks to as I can’t see up in there. I can’t find any videos on how to re install the dampener on a model of pickup. An help would be appreciated.
