2014/15 Trailer Control Output display

I have a 2014 Silverado with the stock brake controller next to the steering on the dash. When you apply/engage the toggle switch should the amount of output be displayed on the dash regardless of the truck being attached to a trailer?

I do not know for sure but conventional wisdom would say it needs to have the trailer connected to have output. Without the trailer connection, there is no output.

right. My thoughts were also that it still sends output to the plug therefore it should still display that it’s sending the signal and at what interval of the set gain. Nothing in the owners manual about it.

If you go through the DIC settings you can see if one of the data pages you can show in the DIC is for trailer brake.  If its not turned on as a page to view, turn it on.  You should be able to see the gain change with the + and - buttons.  It will not show any apply however without a trailer hooked up that has brakes.

You need a trailer hooked to it.
