Always set around 40psi regardless of conditions since I bought it at 41,000.  Last two weeks, hot idle after driving,  20-25.  Starts cold at 40.  drops down to that range after total warm up.  Any thoughts?  Mobil 1, changed every 5,000 miles.

Completely normal oil pressure. My Silverado has had 40 cold and 25psi hot for the 6 years I've owned it.

Normal.

35-40psi is typical cold start idle or a few minutes after starting it.

Anything above 3500rpm the oil pump switches to the high pressure stage and it will probably see 50-75psi and then settle back down once the RPMs drop below 3500.

Hot idle these run 20-30psi on the gauge.

To really get the most accurate oil pressure readings however, an oil pressure tester is ideal.  The gauge has some buffer to it and its "approximate".
