I had my ECM replaced and ever since then the fuel gauge reads incorrectly. It throws a P0463 code, "Fuel level sensor A circuit high".

I filled the tank to make sure it would read something but the needle stays on "E" and the LED stays lit all the time. The shop that put the new unit in said they had it reprogrammed. Is there anything I need to do re-calibrate the sender in the fuel pump and the gauge in the cab?

Nope, nothing requires a reprogram for the fuel system.

It should be the shops problem if a new PCM is causing the fuel gauge to read incorrectly all the time. Though it could be possible the fuel level sendor just randomly died at the same exact time.

Is the "fuel level sendor" the same thing as the float that is attached to an arm inside the tank?

the arm is attached to the fuel level sensor. Serviced by replacing the fuel pump module,  Usually easier to unbolt the bed and block it up to work on it than dropping the tank. Don't skimp on the part, too much labor to do twice

Yes.

The reason I ask is that this fuel tank has two things that go through the top of the tank - the fuel pump assembly with the float and something goes through the top of the tank near the rear. Do you know what that 2nd device is?

Good advice. Thanks. I've been trying to tilt the bed over to the passenger side to get to the pump on the driver's side. That is quite a bear. I'm taking a break right now and might look at it again when I get back to it.

Thanks again.

Likely the EVAP stuff at the other end of the tank. The pump and fuel level sendor are together,

Are there any known "Tips and Tricks" to getting the lines that attach to the top of the fuel pump back onto their appropriate nipples? I've got 2 back on but the largest one just won't go on. All of the videos I've viewed make it look easy peasy but I just can't get the large one back onto its nipple on the fuel pump.

I've tried WD-40 on the nipple and inside the fitting but I just can't get it go on. I've been squeezing the outside front of the fitting and wiggling it back and forth and pulling on it but it has defeated me.

Could someone please explain to me what each of the 3 lines on the top of the fuel pump are used for.

Never mind. On closer inspection the fitting was completely on and secure. My bad.

The 3 lines are the fuel to the engine (closest to the cab) and the other 2 are evap lines.

    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!

    • True, hard to say what differences there may or may not be between Chev and GM as well as a production year or mid year part change either.    I just found it odd that under the Sierra choice on the Autel that many of the last few years of production year did not include the choice of changing the tire pressure but if that is an Autel thing or a GM thing as to why the choices were not there. Knowing what tpms sensors are on the truck should give some guidance into which choices on the tool even make sense to try as I wouldn't give up just yet with the tool but I guess he will see what if anything he comes up with if he finds out a bit more info and tries a few more things on the Autel.
    • I'm sure if you went to a junkyard where you go in and pull the part off the truck yourself, not a used part place where they do it for you, you can get that part on it's own.  Depending on if and what else you would be buying, and time of day, they might even just skip over adding it as a item to the bill.
