Drew grimes Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 I have a 2001 Chevy 2500hd and when I am driving down straight roads, it will randomly start to make what sounds like lifter tick, and when I stop after that, it will stop ticking. I cannot figure out the problem. I have taken off the valve covers and looked at the rocker arms and they all look fine
richard wysong Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Welcome to the Forum! What size engine? Could just be an exhaust leak due to broken/missing exhaust manifold bolts or bad seal between the pipe and the manifold. The sound as very similar to a noisy lifter. How's the oil pressure?
CamGTP Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 If's not an exhaust leak, it could very well be a lifter tick. Opening up the engine is the only way to inspect them and check the camshaft for wear/damage.
Drew grimes Posted November 28, 2024 Author Posted November 28, 2024 It is a 6.0 and it has good oil pressure
CamGTP Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 It can still be a lifter with good oil pressure. We are just grasping at straws when we can't hear the noise and or see the truck in person. If it doesn't do it in park at idle and or if it doesn't do it while you are in park with the rpms raised up, it's going to be super hard to figure out that tick. 1
