Onstar saved my butt...

Kind of a PSA post...

 

The other night, I had just got back home after doing some running around. I was with my son and was a bit tired after finishing some Christmas shopping. I am still recovering from a motorcycle accident in early Sep so use a cane for getting around. In the process of grabbing bags and making sure I had my cane, I had placed the keys down on the driver's seat. Before closing the door, my son closed his, I hit the lock button, and then shut my door. It was at that moment I realized the keys were still in the driver's seat!

 

I do have a spare set of keys but I'm not going to say where they are but they also were not available. When I bought my truck years ago, I had the 3 years of free OnStar but didn't renew it right away. Over the years, I have reactivated it a couple times but then after a few months, always cancel it again. Luckily, I had it active earlier this year when my transmission died in the middle of nowhere Alabama. 

 

So I didn't get too excited and was halfway thinking about maybe reactivating a basic plan again. That way, OnStar would be able to unlock my truck for me. I called the Onstar number and was going through the menu when an option was given to just unlock my vehicle. I figured why not, I will give it a try. Sure enough, after giving the requested info, my Silverado was unlocked and I didn't have to reactivate OnStar. It's good to know in case it ever happens to me again.

That’s nice to be able to get that done. OnStar is so expensive or I would stay enrolled too. 
I seldom use the inside lock, only the remote for the same reason, so I don’t lock the keys inside. But that’s tough if you’re going to fill your hands with stuff.
