2024 2500HD Gas Skid Plates

I just came back from an adventure in Baja, where we ended up in some challenging rock gardens in the washes we were travelling in.  I wouldn't do it again, but we had to push forward through them.  I just inspected my undercarriage and discovered how crappy the Z71 stock skid plates are, 3 of them.  The only damage I am unable to repair myself is at the lower a-arm front bushing mount.  The bracket got bent around the A-arm a little bit, and I am unable to get enough leverage under there to bend it back.  I will have to take it to a shop where they can put it on a rack, maybe remove the a-arm to properly straighten out the bracket.

I am looking at that folded over metal and I am not going to claim this is the proper method but if it were my truck and knowing that I will have a chance of nailing it again on a rock because of the type of off road use it will see again ( as long as the main structure is sound between the pivot point and where its welded to the frame ) Id be tempted to massage it some with a powerful air hammer just to push it back off the A arm so it has proper running clearance again. The sad fact is those items are low points and not designed to withstand a hard sideways hit. If it had to be heated and bent, then the A arm would have to come out to avoid damaging the rubber bushing or certainly not much heating could be done without getting it a bit too toasty. I'd be surprised if you couldn't find a shop that would whip that into a bit better shape then its in without going to great lengths. Go to your favourite shop and show them the photos to start with and take it from there, that's my two small cents worth of advice !
