stea Posted June 10, 2025 Posted June 10, 2025 Sorry stereo dummy here. I installed the kicker sub and amp kit last year. It has now died. Just get an occasional rumble out of the sub woofer. I belive its the amp. I tried a different sub with the same results. I called kicker and you can't just buy the amp u have to buy the whole kit. Any issue running the same sub woofer ( sticker on woofer shows 1 ohm) and the enclosue with a different amp if run larger power wire to the new amp from the battery. Plan on using the same line outputs the kicker kit used. (Yellow and yellow with stripe up by the pass front door kicker panel. That's where the kicker kit connected. Also will have to run a remote wire to an accessory powered fuse I belive. Thoughts.?
taze Posted June 11, 2025 Posted June 11, 2025 As long as the amp is 1 ohm stable, you should be fine. That surprises me a little that sub is 1 ohm.
taze Posted June 11, 2025 Posted June 11, 2025 Looks like it's dual 1 ohm, so maybe it's wired series to 2? stea Posted June 11, 2025 Author Posted June 11, 2025 It had 2 separate feeds. Amp shows 200 watts 2 channel on the back but no other specs
taze Posted June 11, 2025 Posted June 11, 2025 I do see Kicker amps (such as 42PXA2002) list as 1 ohm stable, so maybe they were doing 1 coil per channel. You could wire them in series to increase your options with mono amps. The sub looks like this?
stea Posted June 11, 2025 Author Posted June 11, 2025 Crutchfield recommended this amp https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rETNc108/p_20647KEY50/Kicker-47KEY500-1.html?tp=35834
taze Posted June 11, 2025 Posted June 11, 2025 That would work good. Wired in series for 2Ω and feed the sub 300W should be just right.
stea Posted June 11, 2025 Author Posted June 11, 2025 (edited) THANKS Still seems weird that you cany buy a replacement amp for the kit from Kicker. Plug and play would be nice when there is an issue. Edited June 11, 2025 by shane tea
