torque management removal

I have been reading posts about PCM or chip tuning and the removal of the torque management.

 

What exactly is torque management and why does torque and horsepower increase when it's removed or tuned out of the PCM?

torque management is basically the computer "backing off" the power during shifts to supposedly make them smoother and the drivetrain components last longer.

Torque mgmnt also retards your timing and throttle under full throttle applications.

 

For example: If you were to floor your truck from a standing start. Torque Management will only allow a certain % of full throttle and will change your timing so that you can't apply the power to the ground that is under the hood!!!

 

That's why people that are running the Westers PCM (and others) can now leave black marks where we couldn't before!!! Plus all the shifts are crisper!!!

 

You can never really remove 100% of the torque management, because it could result in driveline/tranny damage, but you can remove alot of it, and make your truck much more enjoyable to drive!!!

I confirmed with Granatelli Motorsports R&D that their Diablosport Predator removes TM ... this is an excellent programmer, it even has a separate tranny program for Tow/Haul mode ... and after inquiring if there were any power program updates they emailed me an update for free - COOL

I have one issue though.

Is Granetelli really saying that they have a different program in tow haul mode?

I don't believe that is correct because I don't think its possible. Tow/haul can only be programmed for shift points and shift pressure. There is no seperate spark curve that can be specific for tow/haul mode.

Right, the Tow/Haul option allows for a different tranny tune only (I just updated my orig msg to clarify this) ... but, that brings up a good point - it seems they could have a separate engine/power tune for Tow/Haul, like for more low rpm grunt or whatever.
