installing moulded splash guards

 I just got a set of moulded splash guards for my 2004 silverado. They are from my local chevy dealer and use the existing holes in the wheel wells. Has anyone installed them and how was it?

I installed them on mine when I first got them and they were very simple. Adequate protection and very simple installation. However, if you plan on adding running boards or tubular side steps, you've got a problem. With the running boards, the moulded splash guards won't work and you'll need the non-moulded GM/Chevy/GMC flat splash guards...if you're installing tubular side steps, you'll have to put the side steps on first or be prepared to remove the moulded splash guards, install the side steps and then reinstall the moulded splash guards as they're in the way of the installation of the side steps.

I have them on two duallys. I liked them fine until I backed up in the 15" snow we had last month. It broke both of my plastic (dent resistant????) dually fenders. $3,000.00 repair bill. What a piece of S**T.

I installed the Chevy Bowtie molded ones. Very easy. :loser:

Question for XTOAK - I'm going to install a set of Westin nerf bars. Will I need to remove the flaps first. It doesn't look like they will interfere with where the nerf bars mount. :troll:

I don't know about the Westin nerfs but I know that when installing the GM brand nerfs from the dealer, you have to remove the front splash guards, if moulded, as they interfere with the installation. Once you get the nerfs mounted, then you can reinstall the moulded splash guards. Thus, I would assume it will be the same dilemma with the Westins.....

Not the case with westins, added them after I had the factory flaps on...No interference whatsoever......Took the flaps off when I installed the fender flares....Gonna post elsewhere see if anyone wants em....Westin steps will not bother factory flaps..

JBZ71,

Not doubting you for a minute...just curious for clarification...you mention the factory flaps...they were the moulded splash guards or flat? Thanks.

They were the GM molded ones..At the time I had no fender flares....I am unsure if you have flares, but if you don't install is easy and does not require removal of the wheels...Front ones you need to remove the bolt on the lower mosr part of the fender, put the bolt through the loop in the flap, reinstall the bolt, which can be a bit tricky...Start the bolt, line up the holes, insert plastic fasteners, tighten bolt,done...Even easier on the rear....Any other questions just ask, glad to help anytime I can... :sigh:

Is there a trick to getting that bottom bolt back in on the front splash guard? I'm having a heck of a time. I'm about ready to just go buy longer bolts.

The Husky mudguards I have worked fine with the speednuts on the two bottom holes up front (after removing the factory plastic plugs on the flares). It is the top one for me that is buggin' me - I tried to use the factory plug and hole to avoid drilling. But I think I will have to take apart the well liner and try to cram in another speednut.

Rubidude, helped my buddy put my old moulded flaps on his 02 Silverado, and no matter how hard we tried we could not get the original bolts in...We opted for longer stainless steel bolts...Problem solved...

I installed mine when I bought the truck 5 years ago...I remember that they were very easy except for some bolts on the fronts...guess it's the bottom bolts that you guys are talking about. I used all of the factory bolts, but I remember contemplating getting longer ones...it's starting to come back to me...
