djp9747 Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 Am looking for a new truck, and in the process of talking with dealers, found that the company I work for is a member of Chevy's Supplier Program. I was told that any company that Chevy Corp. does business with, they will allow that company's employees to purchase a vehicle at a discounted rate. This rate is just slightly above (<$1000) the GM Employees rate. This sounded like pretty good news to me. I looked at a 2500 Crew Cab 4x4 that had an MSRP of $36,601. The salesman checked the computer and said the supplier program price was $32516.93. Once he took off the rebates ($3250 in my area), the price out the door for a '04 SL 2500 Crew Cab 4x4 with 6.0 engine was $29,266.93 + TTL. Now, looking at this from my perspective, it appears that this looks like a decent deal. However, I am always sceptical and am wondering if there is room for more to be taken off. Should I try to bargain him down even further? His response was that the prices was fixed, and that there is not negotiating on Supplier Program prices. Anyone else have any experience with using Suppliers Programs prices? Did you feel like you got the best deal? Did you feel like you could have gotten lower? Thanks for your replies. David (Soon to be new Chevy owner)
stlmaj Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 I used the GMS discount on my 03' 1500HD crewcab. The dealer is not lying to you. The way the program works is you walk in show him your GMS paperwork he then tells you weather or not his dealership is participating for the vehicle you want to buy. After that you pick out the vehicle and GM the manufacture not the dealer has the price worked out… The end outcome worked out good for me turned out to be less than what I could buy a nice used GM crewcab for… However I must mention the hitch… Try not to trade anything in along with the deal. If you can I suggest selling your trade prior to going in. The reason is since they can’t rip you on the new car they’ll eat your trade up and you won’t even get trade-in value for it. They got to make there money I guess. I picked up my crewcab for about 27K before trade in and after rebates. Some people can still get the same price as the GMS just by haggling with them. This just cuts out some of the BS… Good Luck, Matt
XTOAK Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 I too purchased on the GMS program and there was no haggling...I've bought alot of trucks in my time but this was the fastest and easiest in that they showed me the invoice with the GMS pricing outlined, and that was the price of the truck...no negotiating. They allowed me all the rebates off of the GMS pricing and that was the final price. They also offered me a special price on the extended warranty that was GMS pricing but I declined. Also, they can exempt certain vehicles in their inventory from the GMS as they're allowed to do that by GM. I feel I got a fantastic deal on my truck and wouldn't have haggled a penny more. It was fast, efficient and cheap.
Marcus Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 I have had similar situations with GMS pricing. Great Deal, as long as you don't trade in any vehicle and you watch your dealer closely. I'm not sure about Supplier Discount, but with GMS you are also not supposed to pay any dealer "administrative" fees that are usually already pre-printed on the contract (can save you up to 500 bucks). If you are using a GMS or Supplier Discount to purchase a vehicle that usually brings a lot of profit for the dealer (such as high-end pickup or SUV), they will try like mad to "fudge" some of the numbers.
melbertbloosfan Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 GMS pricing rocks. Smoothest, easiest way to buy a new car. Invoice (basically) minus rebates then add in the good financing and you are good to go. Thirty minute transaction. No haggling, no heartburn, no cussing. If you LIKE that kinda stuff, feel free to try to better the deal. If not, I heartily recommend GMS purchasing. Could you get a better deal haggling? Maybe $250-$500 less on a 30K truck. Not worth the headeache IMO. And the dealer was right, GMS is fixed pricing, what you get is what you get. That's the beauty of it.... Go for it and buy the dang thing already and enjoy!!
superbee Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 I bought the Burban with the supplier plan, there is always room to haggle. I just used different dealers, GMC and Chevy, I ended up getting dang close to X Plan (employee) price. GMS is %4 over X plan. There is ALWAYS a better deal!!!!!
djp9747 Posted March 31, 2004 Author Posted March 31, 2004 Okay, thanks for setting me straight. My original thoughts was that it was a good deal. I'm one who values a quick, easy, stress free process. To me it isn't worth it to try an haggle with them just to get a couple of hundred dollars more off of the suppliers price. Thanks guys.
