Exhaust Idea for 2001 Silverado

I have a 01 Silverado with a 5.3 and extended cab short box. The idea I have for an exhaust is as follows:

Cut off the factory y-pipe right before it goes together

Add some pipe extensions to bring the mufflers back a bit or a x-pipe and some shorter extensions

Put on a pair of flowmaster 40 series mufflers

Put on a pair of downturns after the mufflers so the exhaust comes out in the area between the right rear shock and the differential.

First of all, is the x-pipe going to help that much or would I be able to not have it. And second, will this be too loud or should I just add a pair of pipes and tips going out the rear end like most other dual systems. I've never done my own exhaust before so some help would be welcome.

Its going to be very noticeable on the freeway (2000 RPM drone). And you also going to need the x-pipe to balance out the two banks.
