Westers installed on 6.0

Well, I finally got my new pcm thursday. I've put about

120 miles on it so far. The truck is a '03 2500hd,6.0 auto

ecsb, 4x4. Had wester adjust for 285's, 93 hot tune,

lowered torque mng. Had no problems so far,so I

decided to try towing today.Had a 2600# trailer and

loaded 5500# in truck and trailer.Probably a total of

about 8800# plus the truck. No ping at all, even up very

steep hills.I could not believe the improvement.Tried

the hypertech felt no dif. except firmer shifts. I was

wary of spending this much money and having another

" hypertech experience". It feels like a totaly differant

truck. I have no problems turning the Goodyear MTR'S

over on dry pavement and putting your foot to the floor

puts a big grin on your face. Before the pcm change

this thing was a dog and now I think it would walk away

from my 2000 5.3, 2wd. Felt a little stronger each time

I drove it today. Anybody else with an '03 this happy

with your westers? :sigh:

Nice! That's how I feel about myWester's tune in my 2002 6.0, and I had the same Hypertech experience too!

There are 3 or 4 8.1/Wester's owners on this forum, one did a full dyno test!

I have a Wester's tune on my 6.0 and can say that it not only makes more power and is quicker, it shifts better and overall driveability is improved. I can say it really WOKE UP MY TRUCK!

michigan2500HD, congrats!!, what rearend gearing are you running?

Unless he did a gear change he would be running 4.10's because there are no other optional gears on a 2500HD with the 6.0L

Well, I don't have an '03 but, I can't stop smiling when I drive my truck. Lyndon recently sent me a new PCM to correct a problem I was having. Because I've had mine about 9 or 10 months, he said he would apply some knowledge he has gained since he did my first one last year.

Wow! Is all I can say. I thought it was great when I got my PCM last year, this new one is even better! I didn't think he would be able to improve on it but he did.

I'm in love with my truck all over again!!!

well, i only have time to drive my truck on the weekends but the Westers definately woke her up a bit. Just the reduction in the torque management alone was almost worth the money. Oh, and i can smokem till i let up off the gas if i want to.

If I am thinking of going with the Webster's for my 6.0 does it make any difference if you have it set for the 87 octane? Will I get the same results? With gas prices the way they are I can't fill up with 93, just doesn't make sense. By the way, can you order a websters and change it down the line (say if you put on bigger tires)?

This is not meant to be a rip on anyone so dont take it as such...but here is what im thinking.......

In my area 94 octane (Sunoco) is about 20 cents on the gallon more than regular (93 is a little cheaper)

Some of us have 26 gallon tanks some have 35....so lets average it out to 30 gallons just for poops and giggles.

at 20 cents a gallon more, times 30 gallons per fill up....equals $6 extra per fill up for the good stuff.

say we fill up once every 2 weeks......thats $6 times 26 weeks ....equals $156 per year extra in filling up with the good stuff right?

Now here is what i dont understand...we buy $30 - $40K pickup trucks with monthly payments in the $300 - $500 range and we cant afford another $6 to fill up every 2 weeks? I understand that all of us are different money situations, but if your driving a $35k truck and contemplating a $400 - $500 MOD for this same truck, i would think you could afford another $6 every couple of weeks right? I mean if you buy a soda every other day it will cost you more than switching to 94 octane.

Please dont take this the wrong way but it just seems like not that big of a deal to me. Okay, let me slip into my "FLAME" retardant suit so you guys can let me have it. :loser:

I fully understand your point and don't bother with the flame retardent suit. We can all be respectful here. I fill up a few more than twice a month but that aside, if I can save 2-3 hunderd bucks a year that gets me another mod that I will be able to have fun with. Let alone the fact that a Webster's PCM is a LOT of money, I try to justify my expenditures and weigh the pros and cons of each purchase to maximize what I have. There is nothing more that I want than to be able to smoke my 35's anytime I want and to dust these little guys next to me but the question that I asked was would I get the same output from only having an 87 tune? Would I be able to smoke the hell out of the tires with only 87 octane? I know that perhaps I am being a little frugal here, but I would also like to think I am being smart. Also, and not wanting to start a political debate here, but what happens when I invest over $500 on a tune for 93 octane and the price of gas gets to $2.20 and above this summer?

Bottom line: I dont know anything about these Webster's tunes and therefore asked the question I did. Suppose I could have done a search and spent a couple hours reading but thought I might take the easy way and just pose the question. Sorry for the "stupid" train of thought but I do appreciate any insight...

I agree as long as your not driving 100 miles a day it's

not a whole lot more for "the good stuff". I dont think I

would have spent the money on a lesser tune. ( 87 )

I can honestly say I am very happy with the way my

truck is performing now. A westers garage pcm may

be the most bang for the buck you can buy. I have to

make an effort not to light up the tires when turning

from a stop. :loser:

I went with the 93 HOT TUNE on my truck and couldn't be happier. I believe that it even helped my fuel milage, I'm getting over 11 in the city, and 12ish on the highway(driving 80). Also, I'm buying my gas at a local Sam's Club, which with my .05 cent members discount, its only a couple cents higher than the 87oct at most the area stations. Lyndon will reprogram your PCM for any future changes you make! You won't see the same power increases with the 87 tune that you will with the 93 tune - don't get me wrong, you'll see changes, just not as much.

Mayhem,

You can get a dual tune PCM from Westers, that works fine with 87 but steps it up when you fill up with higher octane.
