What's the smell i'm smelling?

Its seems like almost every time i get out of my truck i smell this really weird smell from the center, right under the doors. Its slightly hints of oil, but i can't track exactly what it is. Any ideas??

BTW: it is stronger after i am in 4x4 hi.

Did you check the transfer case oil? if it's low, you could be heating up in there pretty bad. Gear oil has a smell unlike anything else. If you smell it once, you'll never forget it.

No but i should . Its not a regular thing, only about a 1 in 4 chance i will smell it. Time to go to the dealer. Or just wait untill my truck finally blows up

Idealy it would be an avalanche..but right now i'm not sure if i can pull a switch off.  I still have about 6K miles on it before the warrenty and so i'm not yet pressured to do anything. I guess i have to site and wait.

BTW:One of the ext cab windows needs replaced again, the smell is still there, and i need new tires on the thing(yea). More time to waste, more money to spend on this piece of work.

That smell comes from the 4x4 acctuator (how ever you spell it).  Both my Blazer and the K2500 have that smell after running in 4x4 and that is what I have traced it to.  I don't think it is a signal to anything wrong, just something that you live with.
