Trottle Body

OK, I'll show my ignorance. I need to clean my throttle body due to a sticky accelerator pedal. Question is, where is the "throttle body" and the associated "butterfly"? Also, what does the throttle body look like so I know I'm cleaning the right thing. Thanks.

Pull off the black plastic intake tube running from your air filter box to the top of the engine. What is exposed is the Throttle body

The movable blade inside is the 'butterfly'

Be sure to buy 'Throttle Body Cleaner' and use a CLEAN rag/towel :chevy:

Hi -

It’s real easy - just follow the air intake hose from the air cleaner to the engine - the hose connects directly to the TB. Loosen the hose clamp, remove the hose, and the TB will be right there in front of you. The butterfly valve is in the front of the TB.

Is there anything to look for when cleaning the TB? Is there anything that you should be careful NOT to do while cleaning it? It seems as though I have read on previous posts that you should not get the TB cleaner on certain parts on the motor. Anybody?

I used a rag and a q-tip. Just don't drop chit in there :chevy::)

You should open the butterfly manually and clean everything as good as you can. Take your time and it should be A-OK

I cleaned mine a couple months ago, it feels quite a bit different.

Becareful not to touch the IAC valve (idle air control ) as this can damage it and could be around $150Cdn. Get a technical manual and read up. also don't wipe the butterfly with a rag other than a soft cotton one otherwise you may damage the coating on it. and if you spray to much like i did the truck started and died a few second later, of course i was following directions on the can to spray while it was running in short bursts. but don't worry if it dies it will start later, you did not wreck the engine.

I just take the thing off! Once thr throttle body is off, I unscrew in the IAC motor and then give the whole thing a good soaking in throttle body cleaner. I let it air dry and put it back on the truck.

On the IAC, make sure to clean all the carbon out of the groves. That will help if you are having a rough idle issue.
