NiteTrain Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 Hi everyone, First I just wanted to say great forum...I've enjoyed myself cruising throught the posts.. I was on my way home from the gym this morning and I pull up to a light that has two lanes going each way and it stays two lanes after the light for about 500ft then merges into one. I hit this light all the time and it never fails that if you are the first one in either side that there will be someone that pulls up and tries to get the jump on you. So today it was a late model JEEP Cherokee with a middle aged woman driving. I saw her coming down next to me in my rearview and new she was gonna try to jump me off the line. I put it in AUTO 4WD and kick on TOW/HAUL mode. Now I know some of you are saying why use AUTO 4WD and the answer is simple. In 2WD HIGH all my truck does is spin the rear tires for about 18 inches then bogs down and falls all over itself. In Auto 4WD it launches quite nicely with of course no tire spin. I use TOW/HAUL mode because it feels quicker in short distances. Remember we are only talking about 500ft here before someone has to let off. Well anyway the light turns green and I nail it but the JEEP pulls ahead about one and a half JEEP lengths. I had to play catch up and I started gaining ground at the top of first gear and into second. The little JEEP was running out of steam up top and now I'm at her passenger side back door but sure as $%#@ here comes like a 12 inch tall granite curbing real fast. I had run out of room and had to let off! All i was thinking was if I had a little more out of the hole and a nice firm shift from 1st to 2nd she would have had to back off and go write a post to her JEEP forum....LOL... Anyway my truck is a stock 99 Z71 SBEC 5.3 with 80K mi and just a K&N FIPK. I have a Westers 93 tune and a Magnaflow on the way as I write this...Wish I had them this morning!
03 GMC Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 Don't worry about it man it happens to the best of...wait what am I saying. Dude, you got beat by an old lady! It wouldn't matter if she was driving Dale Jr's car and you had 2 flats, you can't race an old lady and lose. Next time step up for the team and beat that Jeep, whatever it takes. Oh yeah, welcome to the forum.
LikeaRock14 Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 Some old folks are TOTAL lead foots! I was next to an old lady is an s500 Benz, she FLOORS it off the line, reaches 35, then goes steady from there haha
RyanZ71 Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 Those 4.0L I-6's are tough engines, they are very quick off the line and will give you a run for your money up to the speed limiter of 96 MPH.
PewterC3 Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 You could get a V8 in the late model Grand Cherokee and they ran pretty decent....when they are running.
GF7PE Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 oh my...I was joking before but when I talked to my mom she said "guess what, I dusted a pickup truck like your old one today. hehehe" man I hope it wasnt yours. what time was it this am?
NiteTrain Posted April 17, 2004 Author Posted April 17, 2004 I guess about 9-915...LMFAO If it was her, tell her I want a rematch!
GF7PE Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 ok phew... i think she has to be to work by 7 or 8 but her schedule is always changing. I will have to check to see what time it was.
jherdt Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 Maybe if you catch her next year her transmission will fail...lol. I had a 99 Wrangler with the I6 engine. It did pull hard off the line. Jim
Elwood 2000 Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 This is why I have a "cattle catcher" on the nose of my Silverado. If someone is going to get up on me, I will pull a "Dale Earnhardt", put the spin on them and get to "victory lane" FIRST!!
