Another exhaust question...

I would like to put performance exhaust on my truck, but I'm a little unsure of which direction to go.

As far as loudness goes, I'm after something that is throaty and noticeable but not obnoxious. I'd like to go with dual side exhaust, since that's what I think looks the best. I'd like to stay away from too much interior resonance, which is why I've seriously considered Corsa.

As far as headers go, I'm not so sure I want to mess with them. I want something that is really low maintenance that will last for 150,000 miles without rusting through. I'd like to keep a similar powerband as stock (not move all the power to the top end).

My main questions deal with the catalytic converters. Is it completely safe to totally remove both cats on these trucks? It isn't really a legal concern in my area, but I don't want to mess my PCM up at all. Also, what should I do with the 02 sensors?

Any ideas about the cats? Will completely removing them harm an engine, and will the O2 sensors be all messed up?

I'm planning on getting a Westers tune, so can Lyndon program this in?

The 6.0 is a VERY loud motor and hard to make quiet. The stock exhaust is very restrictive, but at least makes it quiet. Flowmaster won't sell a muffler to me for that reason. They have not yet found a way to make it livable. It is not just the noise, but the reverberation in the cab that is offensive.

Good Luck

I love resonance, I get it in one of my vettes and it is just so soothing. I had a Corsa exhaust and it was too quiet, I went back to no mufflers and it is great.

My 2500HD sounds great with the stock exhaust, just not loud enough. I can't find anyone who makes a cat back system for mine(reg cab, long bed). So I'll have to custom make one.

flow master won't sell you a muffler? dang. 2003 ext cab short bed 6.0 here. I was thinking of going with them. not really worried about the noise here, but don't wat my power band to high. guess I'll have to do a custom install. any one know what size pipes are behind the converter(s)?

The stock exhaust is very restrictive? Lyndon told me that it's actually pretty good. He said it created less than 1 pound of backpressure.

So, In other words If I'm going to put on a set of headers. Buy them so they will bolt up to the stock pipes. No need to go larger, like to a 4" pipes.

Very bad move. They hinder performance very like if at all and would trough ECM and drivabilty out of whack if you did
