One of our members, and my brother   , Elwood is on spring break and doesn't have much access to a computer and asked me if I could ask this for him.  He is having some work done to his '99 S-10 Blazer.  The mechanic mentioned that alot of people seem to be having problems with the oil lines that run to the remote oil filter either busting or leaking real bad.  All the Chevy dealers in his area say the lines are on back order and they replace quite a few of them, that's why they can't keep them in stock.

The question is, are there any recall's or TSB's on these lines, that anyone knows of?  The local dealer said no, but just wanted to check anyone elses experiences.  The dealer told him it would cost him about $90.00 for labor, $70.00 for one line, and $40.00 for the other.  If there is a recall, he'll let the dealer do it, if not, he's going to have the mechanic see if his look ok and if not, see if some of the local parts stores sells the lines and have the mechanic do that while he's doing the other work.

Thanks for any info.

Tom, if you look back you should see some of my posts about the oil cooling lines.  My dealership stocks a ton of them, they were not on back order around new years when I needed a new set.  They are not on recall either.  I would tell him to let the Chevy dealer do it, I heard that they are a real PITA to replace.

I'm back.  Thanks for posting this Tom.

Thanks for the info, Joe.

I had to leave my Blazer home for the week, so I'll be hitching this week at school.  Shouldn't be too bad, I'll have Becky's Neon, except one day that I have to go to the High School to teach, hopefully I'll be able to borrow a friend's vehicle to get there, or it'll be a long walk.

My parents are going to try to get in in the shop for me this week, if our local dealer can do it.  I don't have much faith in them though, so they may take over to the next town and have them do it instead.  So unfortunately I'm without my Blazer for at least a week, maybe two.

It's common, but it's uncommon, if you follow my drift.  The remote filter is a great conceptual idea, however the lines and bushings in the system they use are hit or miss in terms of strength and burst pressure.

It's just not common enough for them to issue a recall.  It's close though.  I'd say around 30% of them have had an issue with that remote system.

Well, I my parents got it fixed today.  It cost just over $200 for parts and labor.  The dealer said I should keep the receipt, because they've had alot of this problem lately, and if it keeps up like ths maybe there is a chance they might issue a recall and I could get refunded.

Thanks for the help, guys.
