Hi guys---I just bought a 98 S-10 extended cab with the 2.2L and 5-speed. It is super clean and just like new and I got a pretty good deal on it, so I am excited about it.

I know the 2.2 is lacking in power so you guys seem to be "THE PEOPLE" to ask what I can do to it to get a little more umph.

Just looking for simple bolt on things as I don't want to get into the engine itself.

Any intake or exhust modifications that you would suggest?

How about any chips or modules that are on the engine management side?

Anything at all guys.

Thanks for any information you may offer.

This seems to be an outstanding board!!!!

hey there, finally, some one out there with a 2.2 that wants to modify!! i, too, like to find more power from my 2.2, and i have some suggestions if you want to try them.

1. remove the engine driven fan/clutch assembly and install a 16" electric fan on the radiator and change to a 180 thermostat. the steel fan/clutch combo weights about 10-15 pounds and put strain on the engine=robbing about 10-20+ hp

2. street and performance electronics helix power tower throttlebody spacer(pn 22005), helps out low-mid range power, but i aslo seriosly suggest if you get this to get the k&n fipk(33-3025), which really improves throttle response. if your truck has air conditioning, then you cant use the throttle  body spacer without getting the fipk, because the air conditioning compressor gets in the way of the air box.

3. jet performance has a computor mudual for our vehicles, they have a stage 1 or stage 2. thesechips give you about 10-20 hp at the rear wheels, and the run about 230 bucks.

3. the simplest mod is to get a set of bosch platnium +4 plugs and accell super stock spiral core wires, major improvement in gas milage and idle smotthness, a definate number one upgrade!!

if you want any other info, email me, ill help you. check out my truck doun below, the link.
