Squeaking noise from engine!

Hi. I have a '97 Chevy K2500 with the 350 engine. There is a squeaking noise that seems to be coming from either the alternator, a/c compressor, or belt tensioner pulley in the front of the motor. I took off the tensioner and sprayed it down with WD-40 and that didn't solve the problem. :flag: It only squeaks loudly when the engine is warm and it is noticeable up until about 3500 RPMs. When the engine is cool it does it intermitently. Any ideas about what it could be? Thanks!

check and see if your belt runs straight. Pulley misalignment can cause bad squeaks. My airconditioner compressior was tilted back after they replaced the heads and the belt ran to the back of the idler under the compressor. It squeaked pretty bad. maybe you can check this~ if you had anything off lately, you can tell where the old groove on the idler was and where the belt is running now~

Take the serp belt off and spin each pulley individually. Compressed air helps this out.

You should find one pulley that at least "chirps" a bit when you turn it one direction or the other.

Have you replaced the belt yet? Very often the belt will glaze and cause all sorts of noise.

Try these couple things and let us know.

Hope this helps.
