Changing Thermostat

Where is the thermostat in my 88 GMC Jimmy 2.8l v6 and what are the steps in replacing it?

Do they make a 160º tstat for it? I had a 160º tstat in my v6 ricerbird (firebird) and it ran good with it. I'm sick of seeing the temp going from 210 to 240 and I think my tstat isn't opening right.

If anyone can give me a part # and let me know if I need a seperate gasket and what steps I need to take, I'd be much obliged

Load,

The t-stat is located right on top of the intake manifold. Just follow the upper radiator hose to the engine. Where it clamps is the t-stat housing.

Pull the air cleaner off and it will give you good access. Two bolts and off comes the housing exposing your t-stat.

Just go to you local auto parts store and get the t-stat and gasket (they will help you w/ this).

Note: Be careful removing the two bolts that hold the housing on. They can get very corroded/rusted and you risk shearing one off. Take your time, don't force anything.

If it still runs hot after replacing the thermostat look at getting a new radiator......

If the thermostat doesn't help, try removing it and running a flush without the t-stat. Make sure your hoses aren't collapsing under a load. Have a radiator shop service (boil out and refinish) your stock radiator ($50).

If you decide to replace your radiator, I would also replace the water pump at the same time.

Well I put in a new thermostat today (194º one). Noticed a little difference in tempurature, but not much though. Don't think that fixed it...

I'm going to have it looked at tomorrow. Maybe the radiator isn't working properly or something is wrong.. All the hoses look good so I don't think it's a hose problem...

I dunno what to do with this damn thing =( I hope when I get it looked at they will tell me what's wrong
