I 'Super' sized my heavy duty

I have spent the last few weeks trying to find a crew cab, long bed with the 8.1 and allison and not much else. I thought I had a deal last week but the dealer kept calling me at home afterwards and making 'adjustments'. He was the only one in NE with what I want and even he had to get it from somewhere else. for me it was a 90 minute drive to him and he got it from a dealer another 300 miles away.

Anyway, I finally got tired of the  when he 'adjusted' the agreed upon price up by $6,000. So I went to the local Ford dealer to see what they had.

I already knew, I have a computer and internet access but I wanted to see how what they could do. They did a lot and stuck by it.

Last night I picked up my 2004 F350 XLT crew cab, long bed, 4x4 V10 in Dark Green Satin Metallic. I've never in my life owned a Ford but I know plenty of Ford guys who swear by them.

I'll still drop by the site if that's OK. I enjoy reading the posts here and you all seem like friends to me. I know I don't post as often as some but, I'm kind of a quiet guy who doesn't speak much in crowds anyway.

Thanks for the advice and lessons over the last couple of years. I've enjoyed checking in every day.

congrats on your new purchase. To bad the dealer was such a idiot. It goes to show what a difference the dealer makes when it comes to price dickering. Do keep us posted on how you like the new ford and remember there are two types of ford owners the one who swears by them and the one who swears at them.

Iworked with a guy that bought a 2004 350 4door long bed with the v10. We went for a ride and i was surprised at how well it rode. He said it pulls his trailer better than his old unit, and rides much better.

Congratulations on the new truck! Is that a SRW or Dually? As big of a Chevy nut as I am, it never bothers me to see someone buy another make (as long as its made here in the US of A  ). Chevy dealers think way too much of their trucks, you should stop by and say HI to your salesman friend at the Chevy dealer, maybe give him a business card from the Ford dealership, maybe he could learn a thing or 2 from them about how to treat a customer (I think its funny how quick car salesmen are to scramble to get you a card with thier name penciled in-- because they have such a high turn over). Keep us posted on the new ride, what mods do you have planned so far? Reusing the MT/R's off your old truck (I know the Ford bolt pattern is different, so much for carring over the wheels)

P.S. If you get a chance check out the ??? I had for you about the H2 wheels / Wrangler MT/R's under my H2 wheel post

Sorry you couldn't get the deal you wanted on a new GM...

Congrats on the new truck though, and feel free to stick around here and join in. You've made some nice mods to your old truck, and I'm sure you can help some people out here. Plus we have several F*rd SD owners on this site!!!

Ford is not a bad truck but I never liked the sound of that V10 especailly when someone modifies the exhaust. It kinda sounds like a motor boat when you do (not a good sound) but from what I have heard the engine is fairly reliable.

I second the notion about the exhaust on the V10. I have a contractor friend who is a lifelong long F*rd guy who always use to put dual exhausts on his V8 trucks. When he bought his first V10, he planned on doing the same to it. However, the shop owner who did all of his previous exhaust intalls told him that he has yet found an exhaust set up that made that V10 sound good. So he has remained with the stock exhaust.

It really stinks when you have dealers that want to screw you on the price of a vehicle. It is such a pain to try and buy a new vehicles these days at a resonable price. Good luck with the new truck...

Buyer be where! With Invoice prices and hold backs widely known these days, get the price you want or take a walk to somewhere else!

is it a 4wd?

We had a few 2wd trucks exactly like that and my only advice is to follwoing a tanker truck because they are very thirsty. We consistantly got 7-8 mpg. Mind you thats alot of stop and go and offroad driving. We were very hard on them and the only problems we had were the fuel pumps. Went through 2 on 1 truck and 1 on another.

Sounds nice, I like that color you got too!

I've got 24,000 on my '03 V10 with not a problem to speak of. Don't sweat the mileage. Yours is a few hundred lbs heavier than mine but I get a consistant 11/12 mixed driving and over 14 highway with 3.73s. Towing drops to 9 or 10mpg.

The '05 V10s are getting the valve treatment and are going from 310hp/425lb-ft to 355hp/455lb-ft! But you got a tough work engine either way-Ford uses them in trucks all the way up to to F550s.

I've had bad luck with the local GM dealerships as well. If I ever buy another Chevy pickup I'll have to go out of town to find one I'll buy from. Fords are Fords but I've had nothing but good experience with the local Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealer, including sales and service.

    • Brought my 2015 Colorado into the dealership to check my touch screen issues, had that ghost touch thing happening. They said I needed a new touch screen and they could either order me one for $500. The lady at the service deck was nice enough to tell me I could order a touch screen online for less, she did stipulate that the touch screen had to be factory OEM, you can't pair an aftermarket screen to my radio seeing it was 2015, it had to be a GM factory OEM only. I found a few on Amazon and Ebay by the numbers on the back of the old screen, DJ080PA-01A GM# 22740886, Some said "OEM" in the description and others just said "Replacement". Would a replacement be the same as a OEM as long as it had the same numbers on the back of the screen? In some of the descriptions they also show different brand names but same numbers, is that an issue?
    • I have both but typically use the 4 legged walker (wheels on front, ski's on back).   The four wheeler is starting to be used on "longer" outdoor walks.  The 4 legged walker is particularly helpful in practicing good walking posture.  Both of my knees are at different stages of recovery and I'm trying to not develop poor habits.  I can actually manage with a cane but it's very difficult not to favor one leg over the other.  My PT recommends I continue with my 4 legged walker for a while.  Yesterday was four weeks since my last knee replacement and I'm excited about my progress to date.  It has been a hell of a rough journey so far but it is exciting to witness  systematic and continuous improvement.  I went for years watching the decline of my "mobility".  It seems that everyday now I am alerting my wife to something I can do now that I couldn't a day or two ago!  I encourage anyone facing the prospect of knee replacement to share any concerns with others who have had the surgery.  It isn't an instant fix but rather is a considerable amount of short term pain for long term gain.  Recovery time and pain levels vary for individuals post surgery but the end results are typically very positive and I've never encountered anyone regretting having had the surgery.
    • The lifter issue can be dealt with by shorter oil changes and quality oil IMO.
    • Got heavy rain, hail and light rain yesterday.
    • I'm putting in an A-pillar pod/gauges, and I'm asking if anybody can identify a (preferably) fuse for a switched power and illumination circuit on the driver's side interior fuse panel. Offhand, everything I checked with a test light was constant-hot, and I'd much rather uses a piggyback fuse. I can certainly find a wire, but I'd rather not half-tap.   Thanks in advance for any help.
