Changed Cabin Air Filter

Recommended Posts

I bought my truck new on February 4th, 2002 and have put 60,000 miles on it since then. I have never changed out the cabin air filter and finally did it tonight by following the guides posted on this site. It was a really easy job and took maybe 15 minutes...the old filters were very dirty. The pictures below show the old two and the new ones that I put in. I bought them at Pep Boys (1 box contains two filters) and the total was under $20.

Yep....

When I replaced mine after about 40k - They were pretty gross too. I try to change them out every 8 months or so. They still seem to get really full of garbage. I guess that just means they are doing their job.

Just a note that the filters are NOT on the '03 and upwards models.

What year Chevy pickups have these filters ? I have a 95 K1500, does it have them ?

That is certainly a valid question. I think I have a solution. Go here:

It would be nice when folks write up articles about hints and tips that they would include their truck model year. Last year, I spent a long time trying to find my in-cabin air filters as a result of reading a similar message exchange as this one.

Well, after removing the big plastic floor HVAC cover, and looking at the pictures in last year's messages, I came to the conclusion the posters were not using the same year model truck as mine (2003). Finally, some follow-up messages revealed the trucks referred to were not 2003 models. grrrrrrrrrr

Anyway...

I thought that it was figured out that some did....Maybe it was the HDs, or the Trailblazers that retained the in-cabin air filters after the 02 MY.

Of course, I may be making all of this up....It's been a long night.

The model year is in my signature...

My truck is a 2002 1500 4x4, and I definitely have the cabin air filters. I’ve already changed them once. Those air filters are one of the things I really like. I think it’s very unfortunate that GM stopped putting them in year 2003 and newer models.

In the pictures seadoons posted, that black color on the used filters comes in large part from diesel soot from other vehicles. If I’m motoring along with the window open and a diesel passes me, I close the window, turn on the air fan to ‘Re-circulate,’ put the fan speed on high, and in just a few seconds all the diesel odor is gone. Those filters do a good job.
