What motor, transmission, and body style do you have? How do you like it so far?

I graduate in a WEEK and if I find a good nice job soon then I might say bye bye to the truck and in with a compact. I saw a standard cab short bed (black) today (basically my trucks body style) and it was MEAN looking. :banghead: It was the sport type all mono-colored. Not sure if it was 5speed or auto (or what size motor).

Im going to test drive a couple at scoggin dickey tomorrow or in a couple of days to see how they feel.

I dont know why but it reminds me of the Syclone days. The old Sonomas before they screwed up the design and went all round and funky looking on the outside.

BTW it looks like it was lowered an inch or two all around. Both front and back sat even. Dark tint, stock wheels.

Yeah, lets here some opinions. I want a small pickup and these pussies look like a nice chaep truck, well compared to my $41,000 TB :banghead:

The Sport model is lowered 2", 17" wheels, and mono-chromatic paint scheme. (also known as the ZQ8 package). I really love my truck so far... Mine's not a sport, but I like it.

The engines available are an I-4 2.8L engine or an I-5 3.5L engine. The 5 cylinder makes 220hp -- which is more than the 4.3L did in the S-10, and gets better gas mileage to boot. The I-4 (what I have) is 175hp, which is a lot more than the old one, and it has plenty of pep for a daily driver/commuter truck.

If you plan to tow, get an I-5 with an automatic. If you want performance get an I-5 with a 5-speed, and if you want the best fuel economy get an I-4 with the 5-speed.

Oh, there is an Xtreme model available for 2005 if you want to wait for a more badass looking one. It's gonna come factory lowered (even more) and with 18" wheels and a special body kit (clean looking). I believe it will be a lot more expensive than the Sport, though.... so choose your poison.

Good luck,

Michael

Well, I *bought* one :-)

I came to this truck from a full-size Z71 V8, so it's a big change...

Be prepared to have a lot less torque at the low end, but plenty of power to get you moving. If you're really addicted to power and are willing to give up 1 or 2mpg, then go for the I-5 3.5L engine. Most people are saying that they can tow vastly more than the factory tow ratings say, but the I-5 is rated for 4,000lbs.

If you want to gear towards economy, go for the 3.42 rear-end gears, but if you want to move towards better off-the-line acceleration, the 3.73 or 4.10 gears are your best bet.

Be prepared that the I-4 and I-5 don't have the "V8" sound, but I'm getting used to the I-4 and I really appreciate getting over 20mpg *all the time*... even in city driving. Last tank 22mpg. I haven't taken a highway trip yet, but people are reporting 25-27mpg highway with a 5-speed and 24-25 with automatics. I have a Crew Cab I-4 with a 5-speed manual.

    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
    • Correct.  2019-2021 model years are serviced by a different p/n.  19420611.  Recall 2021s use 19420611.   The recall engines 2022-2024 model years are serviced with 12740076.     The difference between 19420611 and 12740076 is GM changed injector size for 2022.  The injectors are smaller on 12740076 with smaller injector bores in the cylinder heads to match the smaller injectors.  So you can't install a 19420611 in a 2022-2024, and you can't install a 12740076 in a 2019-2021.     Both engines are the replacement engine p/ns that are in the L87 recall.  So both of these are the updated engines.     Here's a version of the L87 recall with the p/ns for all the parts needed.    RCRIT-25V274-7075.pdf   Note it shows 19420611 and 12740076 with an asterisk to a footnote "Use the VIN and the GM Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) to determine which part to order if two or more part numbers are listed for the same part, as it may vary by vehicle options."
    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
    • Just looked up my records.  I've never gone over 5000 miles between oil changes.  At 46K miles, I have 10 oil changes.  I hope that will help.  I also installed the disabler last year.  I've still had a few times when it didn't seem to engage (which I can tell because the start stop feature kicks in), but for the most part, I think it's working.  For some reason, GM did not include the number of cylinders running in the information screen like I had on other models.  In my Cadillac, it shows me when it's running on 4 cylinders on the fuel milage screen.  I can't find that on my '21 Denali.
