Center console for manual transmission silverado

i have a 2004 reg cab silverado, its a 5 speed and right now i have a 60/40 split bench, i was looking at the center consoles of the LT's and Tahoes, and the cup holders seem to be right where the shifter on my truck would come out of the console, i was wondering could i put that console in my truck and would the cup holders pop out or would i have to cut some plastic, i was planning on puttin a small leather shift boot right in that square area. I just want to try and hide some of that huge shifter. if anyone knows of this being done already or of any measurements it would be appreciated.
