Mileage before 1st Brake Job?

I have 60,000 miles on my truck and the brakes still stop just fine. I have read in random posts many people saying they have much higher than that.

 

If you have had your brakes done, how many miles did the first set last?

 

If not, how many miles do you have now?

My 2000 Sierra ext cab 2WD/5.3 now has 81,500 miles on it. Front pads are the originals and still have a little life in them. I just had to change out the rear pads right at 80,000 miles. I have been towing 3000+lb. boat with no trailer brakes up & down hills with lots of stop signs along the way since 61,000 miles. The rears probably would have lasted longer than that if not for the towing.

First and only vehicle I've ever had that the rear brakes wore out before the front!!!

It depends a lot on how you drive and I have seen them last 30,000 or 60,000 or more but I never wait for them to get too thin before I change them and I usually change them when they are between 1/2 to 2/3's worn in total thickness myself.

I had the rear brakes changed at 93k, and the fronts are orginals that are still going strong with 117K

I should also add that I use somewhat softer pads when I replace them to save wear on rotors as something has got to "give" if the pads are too hard and wearing a long time. It is cheaper and simpler to replace pads than rotors.

I had my 1st brake job on my truck after i failed state inspection at aroung 55,000 because the parking break didnt hold the truck in Drive. I never used the parking break. aparently you need to use it so it resets it self or it will just rub and rub it did. I replaced 1 disc and 2 parking break pads (dealer wanted over $400 to do it ). I did it for $150 i think...

 

The main brakes pads dont look worn at all!!

When I traded my '99 Sierra at 72K, it needed to have it's first brake job. When I traded my '02 Av at 55K, the brakes were fine.

My dad had his rotors resurfaced at around 55,000 miles. He now has 111,500 and nothing else has been done to the brakes.

Changed the rears at 85,000. Front's were still original at 115,000 when I traded it off.

There's a TSB on the e-brake shoes. The clip that holds the shoe brakes, and as a result the shoe shifts and rubs on the drum part of the rotor. There's a redesigned clip. Happend to mine, e-brake went all of the way to the floor but still held, and passed NJ inspection.

Hah.. Inspection.. California just wants it to be clean burning.. not safe!! My dad works brakes and he still had 105,000 on his originals when he traded it in.. and got over 60 on his HD for work before they gave him an 04! Nobody else that I have ever heard of gets this type of life outta brakes.. One more reason to say "Go Chevy!"

74,000 miles on my original front and rear brakes. Rear rotors need to be spun soon though. THey are getting a little rough.
