help with fuel pump wiring

My fuel pump recently died, and since my truck is 16 years old and hasn't been treated too kindly by previous owners, I didn't think much of it. So I pulled the bed, swapped out the pump, and took a look at things while I was in there (the fuel gauge had never worked since I got the truck). It was kind of obvious that the fuel pump had been replaced before, since the sending unit was damaged and some wiring had been messed with, which is what worries me. There's a wire that's hot with the ignition on that leads up to the top of the tank by the fuel pump basket (not sure if that's the technical term for it). I haven't had time to trace it yet, but I think it leads to the fuel pump relay. I'm not sure why it's there or if it's properly fused.

Anybody know of any wiring diagrams I can get online, or do I have to cough up the money and buy a shop manual? I want to be sure everything's set up right to make sure the truck doesn't burn out the fuel pump again due to poor wiring.

I'm not sure you can find what you want, but you could try going to autozone.com and enter your vehicle info, then click repair info, vehicle repair guides, and then look through the electrical diagrams, it's the same as what you'd find in Chilton's 88-98 Gm trucks repair manual. I am sure you'll find at alldatadiy.com, but it will cost you $25, but it contains all the info from the factory service manual plus access to all TSB's pertaining to your vehicle
