Flickering Lights

Going down the road this morning I noticed my radio light and gear indicator/mileage lights flash on and off. They'll be fine for minutes at a time and then out of the corner of your eye I'll see them go off and then come right back on. After watching them a while I noticed that sometimes the gear/mileage indicator lights would only dim and not go completely out, however, the radio lights still go out completely.

 

This seems to happen independent of anything I do and I can't "make" it happen. It is also daylight hours and I don't know what would happen if at night with the headlights on. Also, I don't see any indication of a problem looking at the alternator gauge AND the truck doesn't indicate any other problems such as cutting out or "hiccuping" when this occurs. Help please.......

first guess would be the rheostat that controls the brightness of the radio lights

It's not just the radio...As stated I also see the gear indicator/mileage lights go out or dim at the same time.

yes but the same rheostat controls the radio and IP cluster lights

Thanks for your assistance. I take it a bad rheostat would give the intermittent systems I described?

 

Where is it located and what does it look like?

i am talking about the 'wheel' that you push all the way up to turn on the interior lights and push down to dim the IP lights.
