we tow a fifth wheel that we just bought, any noticed we get some "push/pull" on the hitch when going over bumps especially expansion joints on the highway. the whole truck is up and down. we added some weight to the front of the camper which helped a lot. we figured our hitch weight was too light. which it was. we want to know if brand name shock would help even more or not? we didnt want to have to buy one of those expensive hitch or king pin devices with a shock or springs in them. thanks

bilstein 5150's or up should help the ride out, it seems like the stock shocks are bottoming out and being topped out as well, i say the 5150's or better should help because you can add more travel, and they also have a resovior, which helps the botting and topping out. for your use though i recommend the bilstein 7100 series. maybe even a add-a-leaf would help the ride out too.

Rancho makes the 9000x, which are adjustable so you can set the truck to ride how you'd like it to, whenever you want. They've helped me out a lot when towing.

You may want to look at Air lifters. Camping World sells a couple of different variants. I have been looking at that myself. I have Bilsteins in my 3/4 ton truck, but I could use some help in reducing up-and-down sway. This is a 8,300lbs travel trailer. I am actually thinking about ordering that for my new truck.

 

The Air lifters allow you to firm up your rear-end when you tow, using compressed air. When you arrive, you can deflate them to get your regular ride back. A friend of mine used it on a 2500 together with a truck camper, where a lot of weight is placed on the truck body itself. He claims they definitely helped a lot.
