I cant find a listing for the stock Thermostat temp. on a 2004 4.8L. My local parts house has a 185 in stock but dont want to buy it if it is the same as what I have. I think my truck has a 195 because it runs close to 200 :jester: on the guage. HELP?

checked the real time data with my diablo, and my ect was about 195 so I guess it has a 195 or maybe the 186 at the parts house is a oem replacement, I guess I will just wait to get my back ordered 160.:chevy::jester::cheers:

why would you suggest against using the lower temp stat? I've heard so many times that it is better...

I have no emissions testing where i live. are you saying to to use it for longevity of the vehicle or simply for emissions testing?

You might get a little better performance but your fuel mileage will suffer. The that the PCM thinks that the car still needs to be warmed up and will be adding more fuel when its not actually needed. Yes your HC and CO levels will go up from a lower temp thermostat, for the difference it makes in "performance" vs drivebility issues that will arrise its not worth it.

I put in a 180* Hypertech t-stat a few months ago. I still get 14.5-15mpg like I did before. IMO, if it keeps things cooler and I still get the same mileage, sounds fine to me. Just MY opinion, but I don't see anything wrong with using a cooler t-stat, I always have in other vehicles. Chris
