What to look for --throttle body?

I pulled the air intake off to take a look at my throttle body... which to my knowledge hasn't been touched in 85k miles. I shined a flashlight in there and could see brown "gunk" -- but it didnt' seem excessive. Some was around the throttle plate, but much cleaner than i expected-- I'll spray some cleaner in there, but is this unusually clean?

if there are old posts-- please send me the title and/or link....

Thanks

That's normal for any fuel injected vehicle. Get some induction/throttle body cleaner and spray it in there with the throttle blade held open. Use a clean, lint free rag and wipe the throttle plate and body as best as possible. Rinse and repeat.

If you really want to clean it good, unbolt it and remove it and clean it off of the vehicle. :jester:

You could also use some Top Engine Cleaner(GM product) and spray or pour some down there. It'll clean up things, but you'll want to change your oil and plugs after using it.

Have you noticed a "resistance" when you press the throttle? That "gook" can cause your flapper to stick when you try and give gas. Clean it about every 30k or so.

Mine got really bad before I discovered the cause.

Part of the crap in the intake and on the back of the TB is actually oil. The PCV system on the LSX engines isnt designed too well. The PCV pulls oil back into the intake where it builds up. SeaFoam works really well for cleaning top end. Plus SeaFoam makes an intake cleaner called Deep Creep that works awesome. 3M also makes a good intake cleaner.

...get a good catch can too. Cleaned my TB yesterday with BG induction system cleaner, and I have a can of Seafoam ready to go next chance I get.
