Never will buy

Boy, watched the news tonight and saw a deal on crash tests of the four large pickups sold here.  That F150 sure did crumple, looks like a crappy design job.  Under no circumstances should Ford be allowed to sell that trap.  The Ram wasn't much better.  The Tundra seemed to be OK, but they never showed the Chevy/GMC tested.  It got a marginal rating.

I saw that, too. Kinda scary!

the crumpling, or collapsing of the frame and body has to direct the force away from the occupants but still protect them.

The Ford didn't have a "crumple zone", it just collapsed. there was no protection for the driver.

That is what they call a "doghouse" in racing, the driver/passenger area.

I DO agree with you guys that what happened to the F150 should NOT BE Allowed, but what happened is probably a good thing.  Maybe now Ford will get in gear and build a real 1/2ton truck again.  I do know that my older 1/2ton's will survive a crash a bit better.  I'm sure that after a crash like that, people will be stopping from all over at the Gm place to dump their F-series for a new Silverado/Sierra...Sarcasm...

I don't believe anything on that show for further then I can spit.  Anybody notice how the GM got better ratings then the Tundra for occupant protection, yet that was never mentioned on T.V.?  Somehow it got a worse overall rating too.  Makes a guy wonder....

I really don't care for these kinds of testing.  Especially since the tundra is a **** compact compared to the others.  Also I would like to see the specs, like how fast they were going and other facts.  I figure this was made to make the American trucks look bad(since the ricer got a decent rating).  I mean its like comparing apples to oranges.  Next they'll be doing rollover tests and showing us things that we already know like blazers and explorers will roll before a suburban will.

Also wouldn't the vehicles wieght, what options it had(2wd or 4wd, ext cab/no, extended bed/no) I don't remember if they did say these things since i was only half watching, if they did i apologize.

"""" .  Especially since the tundra is a **** compact ""

Say what???My 2001 Silverado has a wheelbase of 119 inches, the regular cab Tundra is 128"

My Silverado is 203" long overall the Tundra 217"

Width of the Silverado is 78" and the Tundra is 75"

What makes you think it is a compact. Toyota's compact is the Tacoma!!!

And as far as the ratings, one thing that hurt the GM was that the safety institute lists as part of its rating the cost of repairs and the amount of damage to bumpers even if it doesn't impact passenger safety. The GM was the only truck that got good ratings in all 4 of the injury measurments.

I find that kind of funny.  There wasn't a single truck they tested that wasn't going to get put on a rollback and totaled by the insurance company.  In an accident that bad I could care less how much damage was done, I just want to walk away.  The more I find out about these institute testings, the less informative they become....

Its generally pretty easy to figure out the tests once you figure out who paid for them to be performed.  Anyone know who paid for these??  Sometimes they dont actually pay but donate a sum to certain institutions..
