Knocking feel in the steering colum

I took my 2003 8.1L in for a knocking sound that was coming up through the steering column. I could feel something was definately loose and it would cause a noticable rattle up the column over bumps.

 

Seems GM knows this too. They released a revised steering shaft that fixed the problem completely.

 

If you feel this on your truck, take it in under warranty and get the new part. Drives like a dream again.

Was it a new part or did they just grease it?

I brought mine in for the samething and I got a whole new part.

GM has known about this problem for a loooong time. The first "solution" was to grease the intermediate shaft. When that proved futile they went with replacing it. But with the exact same P/N. That didn't work either (duh!). Now, there's supposedly a completely new piece, the one that's in the 04's. I just went and had mine done this morning.

 

We'll see if this is finally the fix for a problem that my truck has had for 2 years.

It's a whole new part. I don't have the invoice in front of me, but it says "updated design" next to the part number. Truck drives like "butta" now

Took my truck in today to get this fixed under warranty. Part is now on national backorder. Get in line!
