CMNT has a line on a D-Max

I have a line on a 65,000 mile 2002 2500HD with the D-Max, Allison, and everything (LT trim). It is a crew cab and still 6.5 bed which is exactly what I want and it's the old front end. The suicide doors on the ext cab were getting annoying in tight parking lots.

 

Anyway, it was a truck used to pull a 5th wheel camper (so he is keeping it in the truck when he sells it!!!), then they traded in the 5th wheel camper for a bus style Monaco 37 foot RV and pull the HD behind the RV. As such they are interested in selling the truck.

 

Anyway, I would like hard MPG numbers to sell it to the little lady. She likes the truck (She liked my old HD) but the fuel economy is what she is fearful of, especially since the beater Olds 88 I've been driving gets 19-21mpg and I drive 70 miles a day.

 

So what are your city and highway numbers? What are they towing say a car trailer or a 5th wheel RV?

I have talked to several DMax owners, and the LOW end of the mileage scale is 18~19 overall combined city/hiway. I have heard of 22 being the upper limit hiway, and one guy I talked to got as low as 16 city.

 

Guy #2's city mileage is better than my hiway. But then again he paid $4K more for his engine.

NO matter how you guys cut it, D-Max's pulling trailers are still getting significantly better mileage than my 8.1 did empty on it's best day!

 

I think on one of the last trips I took with it, I was lucky to break a high 11, low 12 in terms of MPG.

I'm working on it. It probably won't be until sometime in October though before a decision is made for sure whether or not he's going to sell.
