I've seen Tahoes/Yukons, etc. that have side view mirrors that retract via electric motors and a switch somewhere. Seeins how I just acquired a garage to park in, and it requires that I fold in the mirrors to fit through the door, this seems like a worthwile option that I'd like to add.

 

Anyone else done this? I guess that I have to hook up with some parts, a schematic, and some cash first. I guess that I'll hard wire em and bypass the whole BCM deal.

 

Oh yea, I put on a black powdercoated shorty Corvette antenna that I got at www.corvettegarage.com to clear the door also. Think it's 16" or 18" or something. Didn't think that I was gonna like it, but it's actually really nice...solid, doesn't flap around like the original.

 

I'm really psyched that I finally have a garage to park in!!!!!!! :lol::thumbs::mad::cheers::sigh::mad:

I couldn't even begin to think about what is involved in this, but for your part finding mission........my 03 1500hd has those mirrors also. :thumbs:

Boy, I wish I knew what it was like to have a garage to park in!!!! Oh Well, maybe one day :thumbs:

Anyway,The power fold heated mirrors (along with the turn-signal indicators and tilt-curb feature) wasn't available until the '03 model year so you'll have to find 'em on a fairly new donor truck or check on E-Bay.

Let us know how it was to do,I know a few guys that would like to do this but are scared of whats involved.

Just figured out that I can fit into the garage by only folding in the driver's mirror...not as much of an inconvenience as having to do both. So now the electric fold in's aren't such a priority...although if I come across the parts cheap enough...I'm goin for it.

Whether it's a matter of wiring the mirror up/down right/left into the factory harness and hard wiring the fold in part, or swapping in a later BCM and building some harnesses with the proper connectors, it can be done.

I'm surprised Painless Wiring or somebody hasn't put something out for this yet...hmm...

What about the mirrors that extend out for towing?

Couldn't you use the control system for those and make the in/out function work the swing on the Tahoe mirrors?

The control system (switch and harness) is the same on the camper mirrors as it is on the pwr.fold mirrors,The difference is when you program the BCM you have to tell it what mirrors you have by the RPO code (DL3 for pwr.fold-DPF for camper in/out mirrors)

We had a guy in our body shop with an'03 with the DL3 pwr.fold mirrors change to the DPF camper mirrors and it was as simple as reprogramming the BCM.

But we have some other guys with older new-body style trucks('99-'02) that would like to add the pwr.fold mirrors but don't know whats involved.

you can go from the Camper mirrors to the folding mirrors with NO BCM reprogram, and the folding option will work fine. However the curb assist/tilt will not, nor will the memory feature. Those features require the BCM reprogramming. To go from the folding mirrors to the camper mirrors, no programming is needed at all because the camper mirrors do not have the tilt, curb assist, or memory options at all. What i would have like was a camper mirror with all those options from the get go......the facttory camper mirrors with power folding, curb assist, and memory retention....as well as teloscoping. Now that would be nice! :cheers:

Holy cow, I didn't even know that they had curb assist and memory. I just want power fold in...this is getting interesting. Oh yea, and heated too.

But the memory is only on the "LT" and "SLT" trucks with leather.

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.  
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.  
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
