2004 GMC 2500HD QCSB 6.0

I am looking at trading in my 2003 GMC 1500 5.3 EXT. Cab SB, for a 2004 GMC 2500HD 6.0 CCSB w/4.10 rear end. I am wondering what I can expect for gas mileage in town and on the freeway? How well does it pull an enclosed trailer that weighs around 7000 pounds loaded? Also the sticker on it is $38,450.00 and I can get it for $27,200.00, is this good? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You will find the nice little 5.3 has spoiled you. The 6.0 gas is a guzzler! I've had both. I recently traded my 02 HD CC 6.0 2x4 w/3.73 gear for a 04 HD CC Duramax/Allison. I enjoyed my 6.0 but it does love the gas. I was able to get more mileage than most at: 12 city and 18 on the interstate.....that's at 70 mph or less and using mid grade gas which I found did better on the mileage.

With the 4.10 gear you can expect the gas economy to really suffer.

Probably in the range of 10-11 city and 15-16 on the road. Maybe you will be better off with the 3.73 gear which will handle the 7000 lbs just fine except on the steepest of grades. All depends on how much towing you plan to do I guess. Anyway, that's my 2 cent........

I get the normal 10-12 MPG's in town, and I've seen 16.5 MPG's highway at reasonable speeds.

the 4.10's really help the 6.0L pull better, especially since I went to 265/75/16 tires.

I pulled a 5K lb enclosed v-nose snowmobile trailer from western PA to Wash DC and back across the PA turnpike and through the Eastern mtns and avg'd about 10 MPG's

You guys have awesome 6.0 if you getting 17-18 my truck gets 9-10 city and at absolute best going down hill with a gale force wind at my back my 6.0 will get 11-12(at absolute best) 60-65 **** footing it around..

mine sucks the gas also @ 9-10 in the city and the same pulling my car on trailer, quads on trailer,or sleds on trailer. empty i get 13mpg. mpg are the same with stock tires or my 305-70's and i took inconsideration for the bigger tires on figuring out milage. such a gas hog that I'm considering getting a cc1500 z71 on tuesday but might go with cc2500hd just because of the size of the bed.

My Silverado is the 2500HD ExCab LB, 6.0L, 4sp auto, with 4:10 gears, and in town it gets about 8mpg, highway empty it gets 15mpg, and highway towing it gets 11mpg.

Empty,I was getting 14-15 with stock 245's

Added Yokahama Geo's 265's and now getting 12.5-13.5

I used my programmer to recalibrate for the tires so is should be accurate.

I just added the VR Cobra, hoping to get back to 15

Sort of like taking weight gain and diet pills at the same time.

Let us know how the VR Cobra works out for you. I am curious to see what your results will be! If there is a good increase in mileage I may have to look into getting one. I average around 13.5mpg between city and highway driving right now. Another couple mpg would be great...

I had a 2002 2500HD 4X4 with the 6.0 and around town I got 9 mpg, I took it to tennesse on the highway I got 13 mpg running the 4.10 gears its a gas hog MAN ill tell ya, I pulled a 24ft boat 150 miles and boy did she burn some gas. Since traded it on a 2004 ext cab 4X4 Duramax and I love it getting about 16 around town and about 24 on the highway.

Got a call from VariRam. Saying that my air cleaner was too restrictive. They sent me a temp unit to use until the new one is made.

I installed the temp air filter but didn't make a big deal.

Was getting 13 around the house. Drove Syracuse, Ny got 14.5 doing 70-75. Drove to Barnes Corners, Ny to checkout a few cabins mileage dropped to 13 driving the back dirt roads.

I-81 all the way home, the mileage ended up at 12.9 drive the same 70-75.

I guess that its down hill to Syracuse from NE, PA!

I love the way the truck looks with the 265/75/16's but the gas mileage dropped big time!

Is there any other mods to do to get this better on gas?

Has anyone tried a aftermarket cam?

I could see if I was doing jackrabit starts constantly, but this is nuts....

I was getting around 5-9 mpg in the city and roughly 12 MAX on the highway. Running anwhere between 55-78 mph. So far the only thing I have done is some trial and error with exhaust and was finally able to get the mpg's stated at the beggining of this thread. I think they got the pick of the litter if they get those mpg's with no mods.

I have a 03 ECSB 4x4 with the 6.0 and the 4.10's. I am running 285 75R 16's and have used a hypertech to reprogram the speedo. I am averaging 12.7mpg to 13 around town and over the road. I can get 14 ish on the highway and about a low of 11 to 12 around town. Its not bad, but i am going with the DMax next time.
