bigger tires without going bigger??

On my 04 4x4 burb I would like to in time go wider but keep the same tire hight for computer reasons. Can this be done and what would be the size ??

I wanted to do the same thing. I have 265/75/16s. There are two companies that make a 285/70/16 which is a little less than an inch wider but they are both street truck treads. I still use my truck as a truck from time to time so they are no good to me.

The other option would be to go to a larger wheel. 18" wheels have a wider selection. I haven't done any research for 17"s.

I hear going from a 265/75R-16 to a 285/75R-16 only makes a 2.2 mph differance in speedo reading. This is my plan for my rig. Torn between BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KOs, Toyo Open Country A/Ts, Bridgestone A/T Revos, and Nitto Terra-Grapplers. Anyone's thoughts?

I have about 25k on my Nittos, and they are holding up OK, but are starting to get fairly noisy...But most AT tires will do that towards the end of their lifespan.

 

As for the speedo, how much it's off is dependant on how fast you are going. It can be off 2.2mph at 40mph, but at 70mph, it will be off closer to 5.

Yes, the speed difference is dependant on speed.

 

However on my 99 When I put the 285s on, I checked the speedo with a GPS unit. The thing is closer to correct now than it was with the original tires on it.

Mine too...It's dead-on @ 75mph via GPS, as well as the odometer being dead-on with GPS on a 250 mile road trip. This is after putting the 285/75/r16 tires on.

 

My Blazer, on the other hand, is 3mph off @ 75mph with GPS after installing the 285s on it.
